The Map of Oz
Everyone agrees that Oz is an oblong of four countries around a green city in the middle. Nobody agrees which way round they go.
Baum puts the Munchkins in the east and the Winkies in the west — his Wicked Witch of the West rules the Winkies. Ruth Plumly Thompson follows him in Kabumpo in Oz (1922), then reverses both by The Gnome King of Oz (1927). Every printed map of Oz has had to choose. This one does not: the switch below redraws it either way, and the passages behind both are quoted on Munchkin Country and Winkie Country.
Schematic, not surveyed. The books describe Oz as an oblong of four countries around a central city; they do not agree on the order, and no map here can be more precise than its sources.
